I am wondering if there is a method by which I can lock components so that they cannot be altered accidentally. If there is not, I would like to request an enhancement - perhaps a checkbox next to the visibility checkbox in the structure tree?

Thanks.

I might add, it would be great if something similar could be done with Groups. I am finding that feature very useful. Every so often though, I find that the criteria has mysteriously and frustratingly changed - it is probably me changing the relationships somehow, but the added security of a lock box might prevent those accidents.
Thanks for your statement, that supports my view. This enhancement was requested & I have not received any positive response to it yet. But I am sure that just like other improvements were being done, SpaceClaim would surely bring something better than expected.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who would like this feature.
I suppose if I were a more disciplined user I would carefully activate components one by one. Still there are times when that is slow or inconvenient. And that implies I am always aware of what I am doing! Then I would be perfect :-)
I have also wanted something like this. I suggested a tool similar in appearance to the Move tool, but it in essence would be a Don't Move tool. You could select solids, surfaces, edges, etc. and click the individual axis and/or rotations to lock the movement of the selection in those directions. It would work similarly on assemblies and group selections. This is like adding the constraints that modeling software I am familiar with has had too much of IMO, but is useful once a design is optimized. This tool would allow you to put these into a design in a more intuitive way, as the design iterations start to 'crystalize'.
I confirm that it would be very useful to "lock" components we don't want to modify.
Thanks for the input everyone -- R5 does have Locking capability.

Maybe SpaceClaim has to be improved, but I don't think there is any other CAD software that includes such a direct communication between users, resellers and developers!
PS: Don't forget conical and complex rounds ;)
There is at least one other I know of, though communication alone does not improve that application too much. They just talk, talk, talk, but I know bugs that are in the system for more than 10 jears now and never got fixed. Even that fact has been discussed between developers and users ad nauseam. It's the careful choice, anylysis and fast implementation that makes the difference. And consitency as well as stability of such implementation, of course.

So far, the Spaceclaim team is on a good track, I think.
I'm on the edge of my seat ...
