The Online Community About Exciting CAD Technologies

There is a video on Discovery Channel, aired about two days ago in Canada, where you can see me using Spaceclaim while commenting on some technical stuff related to a recent project, the Volkswagen "Bik.e" electric bike, which I did in Spaceclaim.

Starts with an ad and something about a useless rocket car first.

Way to go Martin, keep up the good work!!!

Nice job! Wondering where was the helmet :)? Was the spaceclaim "right" software for design project?
Thank you, Willem,

Anssi, fortunately you don't need a helmet for this kind of bike. It will be limited to 20km/h (or whatever applicable in the target market) for road use, though It can actually go up to 60km/h, which is more fun, of course.
Spaceclaim was the right software, yes, as this project included a lot of conceptual work, so I would not have been able to use the power of a history based system very often while the flexibility of direct modeling was an advantage every day. I have been working with someone who runs AutoStudio and the most of surface work was done there, then everything was joined and modified in Spaceclaim, where also all the engineering was done, and from there via Schott Systeme CAM to production.

Data was exported to Catia for documentation and car integration in the end.
Renderings with Alias and KeyShot.

After this project, the top of my Spaceclaim wish list looks somewhat like this:
- Configurations: I need the option to store multiple positions of a component (say folded/unfolded) and activate it by a single mouse klick.
- "Treat as one Part in BOM" option, where an assembly which is bought as one part isn't broken down to its bits and pieces in the BOM (E.G. Ball bearing: You don't need all the balls in the BOM!).
- Improved "blend along guide curves" option for the pull tool.
- There is sure more but these are the ones that come to my mind first.

Can imagine that the "direct" tools was a great help for modeling.
Sure there are lot of more to improve but it is good to start somewhere :).
